TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ghaflah, an Arabic word meaning neglect, heedlessness, and forgetfulness, is a harmful characteristic that ruins one’s good deeds.

Ghaflah

Understanding different kinds of Ghaflah and how it affects one’s life in this world and the next is very important.

There are many verses of the Holy Quran referring to Ghaflah, and this is an indication of how important it is to tackle it.

God says in Verse 146 of Surah Al-A’raf: “I will turn away from My communications those who are unjustly proud in the earth; and if they see every sign they will not believe in It; and if they see the way of rectitude they do not take It for a way, and if they see the way of error. they take it for a way; this is because they rejected Our communications and were heedless of them.”

Ghaflah is a concept that has a broad scope and includes all kinds of neglect and heedlessness regarding this world and the hereafter.

One of the outcomes of Ghaflah that is very dangerous is that it destroys one’s efforts and deeds.

1- Destroying efforts in this world:

Sometimes someone who is facing many difficulties in life makes a lot of efforts to collect a capital but loses all of it for a small neglect. This is a worldly outcome of Ghaflah that destroys all of one’s efforts.

2- Ghaflah that destroys effects of good deeds in hereafter

According to Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, this kind of Ghaflah destroys one’s deeds. Those who suffer from Ghaflah rarely do good deeds and if they do, their Ghaflah does not allow them to do the good deed with Ikhlas (pure intention).

Imam Ali (AS) said: Avoid Ghaflah and arrogance because Ghaflah ruins one’s deeds.
